With RC SP1 you are limited to specific operating systems that can be dynamic memory.
While it might be possible to over commit the memory it does not work as well as Virtuozzo or VMWare
It dynamically adjusts the ram based on usage.
if you have 12GB of ram on the server you can start ~ 10 servers with 1GB base ram
with dynamic memory you can do the following:
20 containers with 512MB base ram and they will ramp up based on usage across the board.
Problem is when it comes to all those servers needing more than 512 each.
we have tested this and found performance degradation, some containers that restart may not start because all available resources are chewed up.
It really doesn't use page file like vmware and virtuozzo. Not sure if ms plans to commit to memory over commit or stay with its concept of dynamic memory.
It can be very dangerous for a host to oversell based on dynamic memory, you could face situations where some containers may not start
